The Next California?

We finally made it.  The Pacific Northwest has been on my travel list of an awfully long time.  I don't know if it was my constant nagging or mention of morel mushrooms, but I finally convinced Matt that we needed to go.  Pretty sure it was the morels, but hey, whatever works, right?  It was a pretty tough decision between the funkiness of Portland (and promise of 400+ food trucks!!!!!) and the rainy, hazy days of Seattle.  In the end it came down to the best VRBO option and the price of air transport... Seattle came out the clear winner!

I must say, the city rewarded us handsomely.  The weather was an unusual (I'm not convinced it really rains as much as they say) 70 and sunny.  Hardly a cloud in the sky.  The variety of shit to do and places to go was in full abundance.  The people watching was superb... hula hoopers, practicing yogis and street wanders everywhere.  And the grub at pike place market pretty damn tasty, according to both tasty & I.

We parked it, we marketed it, we cooked, we wore ourselves out past the point of exhaustion, we hiked, we ate, we laughed, we dreamed, we found snow and sun and rain, we hugged GIANT trees and smelled pretty tulips, we collected dinner, we searched for pubs and rode car ferries, we saw the grossest alley ever, we climbed aboard AirForce One, we stalked houseboats and their untrusting residents, we got lost and amazed amongst the 20' snow cliffs, we fell for the worst tourist trap ever, and we loved it.  All of it.  Don't worry Mr. Space Needle ticket guy, we will keep your secret.  Seattle is definitely not the next California.  And now for the photo onslaught.....

By far, Matt's favorite adventure was tide pooling, aka ocean foraging.  He was like a kid on a treasure hunt and COULD NOT get over the fact that it was free food, and free seafood for that matter.  My favorite, definitely watching that crazy caveman and his goofy grin as he collected mussel after mussel and later as he cooked them up.  Oh and one cannot forget the mushroom book and possibility of the great Western Morel.

And who could miss the fantastic iPhone pics....

Move Numero Dos: 2+ years later...

See, I keep my promises.  Just when we are getting around to putting it on the market, over two years later, I finally update the blog with pics of our latest home.  Condo 422, home to a carefree, maintenance free lifestyle. Seriously it has been like being back in college again.  All we have to do is clean, buy groceries, do the laundry, and enjoy cocktail hour on the balcony.  It has been pretty awesome.  But this summer the itch started... We miss our own green space and as crazy as it sounds house projects!  There is only so much you can do to a brand new, never lived in condo and we have pretty much done it... upgrades galore, 10' paint jobs, backsplash, modern decor, even a custom murphy bed!  We tried it and has been a pretty good ride, but let's face it, we are not condo people!  No wonder the dog has been looking at us so strangely the past 3 years...  I have a feeling we will be missing this lifestyle in the not so distance future... Bring on the house!

FROM.....                                            TO.....

Us...Five! Five-a-Live!

Seriously. five. it's a big number. Okay. this year, there's no tellin', well maybe some tellin' since it's already May... Here's what I do know and the rest well it's all a big ole' question mark. Year five will inevitably bring change, career change! yay! attitude change! yay! I've been waiting. it's finally here. now Raybill... Matt scored our first investment property. and a tv show to boot (note: tv show used generously). watch for it peeps. It's going to be huge ;)

Us... cuatro ano

I really have no idea where this year will lead us. All starts with our biggest vacation yet... Thailand. And then from there who knows? We have (or should I say I have) been searching for a project maybe landlords, maybe a new fantastic job, maybe entrepuer, maybe a new house. Crystal ball anyone?

Us... On to year three.

Most exciting thing in our life... No more school! No more school! Well at least for me. Matt may think differently, like I told him vacation is on for me, over for him ;) Not quite sure how I will fill my time yet, we all know I don't do relaxation well, and the first two weeks have been interesting, a visit to NYC, re-sodding the lawn for the second time, planting the garden, a craiglist's garage sale, etc.

Us... Year 2

Year 2 of marriage. As Matt would say this is the year of being "young professionals"... Matt went independent in August and we are trying to figure out how to adjust to "tax-free" checks. It makes me a little nervous but Matt, the ever adivsor, says it is just fine. I just started my new job at ConAgra Foods, quite a change from industrial automation. Oh and there's school... never ending school. Someday, I will be done, right? With the house projects near completion, Matt traded smoking for a new boat. (I think he cheats by having a beer just to justify a smoke, but I secretly cannot bring myself to sell the boat - Sonny likes it too much) And then there is Sonny, 100 pounds and spoiled. He continues to rule the house.
